BHADRAVATHI

History

The Salesians were invited to take up the parish of St Joseph the Worker at Paper Town in 1994. With the idea of reaching out to the unskilled young people of the area we began the Don Bosco Institute of Technical Training from 1995 at Ujjanipura, Bhadravathi.

Activities

1. Vocational Training: The Don Bosco Institute of Industrial Training (DBIIT) runs non-formal courses such as  Electrical, Electronics, Computers, Turner, Fitter, Welder and Auto mechanic, including automobile servicing. The project offers the possibility for the young men and women of the area to equip themselves with skills that can lead them to earn a livelihood. Presently there are 100 students (60 boys and 40 girls) undergoing training in different trades.

2. Social Development: The project also reaches out to the needy of the area through promotion of education. There are three crèches run by the project for over 135 children (75 boys and 60 girls). The evening school also reaches to 200 children (120 boys & 80 girls) . Young girls are helped with a tailoring training programme (22 beneficiaries). Women are organized into credit unions and there are 100 women who are members of two groups.

3. Pastoral Ministry: There is also a Parish, consisting of 210 families, to take care of the spiritual needs of the faithful. The Salesian cooperators play an active role in the different activities of the project.
