CHULLIKKARA


History

The Salesian presence at  Chullikkara near Rajapuram in Kasaragod District, Kerala, began in 1994. A tuition centre for school going children and a computer education centre were begun in the year 2002. We have also begun residential facility for the children from tribal community so that they have access to education.

Activities

1. Tuition centre

The tuition centre was started in the year 2002. The children in the locality, especially the poor, are given special coaching in academic subjects (60 children)  and spoken English (30 children). There are tribal as well as non tribal children.

The classes are facilitated by five teachers for four hours everyday. The children show improved performance in the school and are able to learn better.

2. Computer Centre

Computer education is provided to the children of the locality. At present there are 6 computer systems which benefit 25 children. There is a teacher to guide the children in their computer classes. The beneficiaries are charged nominal fees for the service. Basic lessons in computer are taught and within a period of three months the children are able to operate computer and do the basic tasks.

3. Youth centre

We have a youth centre where 15 youth have already enrolled. Different activities games, awareness classes are conducted for them. It has helped in the development of the youth.

4. Boarding

In this academic year we have begun a boarding facility for the children from the tribal community. They stay in our boarding facility and study in the schools nearby. There are 10 children in the boarding.
