The Microcredit programme was started in the year 2012 in the coastal villages of Kollam district of Kerala state in partnership with Fishermen Community Development Programme (FCDP).

The project helped the poor fisher folk people for easy access to small credit for their livelihood and emergency financial needs. Within a two year period more than 2500 people were able to accessmicro loans to start new income generation activities or expand their existing business activities and/or to increase spending in household assets, education and health needs. The project also nurtured the habit of thrift and savings among the fisher folk community especially women.

For the effective implementation and management of the project, two organizations were formed and strengthened for channeling the micro credit. The federation of women Self Help Groups called TheeradesaMahila Society (TMS) which is exclusively working among fisher women and the other organization called FCDP working among the fishermen groups. The money repaid by the loan-clients is revolving within the self help groups of FCDP and TMS; Somore people were benefited from this micro credit programme.

BREADS disbursed a a seed capital of 50 lakhs rupees as revolving fund for micro finance activities together with skill training, capacity building programmes and regular monitoring.
