History
In the year 1969, the Salesian community of Kristu Jyothi College took up a few developmental activities as a help to the parish of St. Antony’s at Thambuch-ettipalaya. In the beginning there were only a few Christian families in the villages of Basavanapura and Seegehally. The first church in this centre was built in the year 1969. It had to be rebuilt and took a larger shape in the year 1973. The Community Hall was built and inaugurated on 26th August 1979. Ten years later, on the 10th July 1988, this was created a new parish and permanently handed over to the Salesians of Don Bosco. The parish has about 200 families. In 1998, a new parish church and a small grotto of Our Lady of Lourdes were built and it was inaugurated in the year 1999.
Activities
1. Pastoral services.
The parish reaches out to the people of three villages through pastoral and social services. The daily Eucharist, Sunday catechism, family visits, the animation of people through various pious associations etc form part of the pastoral care through the parish.
2. Cliff (Centre for lay involvement and faith formation)
It is a training centre for lay people in faith and biblical formation. Regular courses, weekend programmes etc are organized for the lay people so that they could become more involved and take up leadership in the church in Karnataka.
