History
The foundation-stone of Don Bosco – Mysore, was laid on 15th August 1990, and from 1992 to 1997, it functioned as the aspirantate of the Karnataka region of the province. In June 1997 it became the pre-novitiate house of the Bangalore Salesian Province and the aspirantate was shifted to Tumkur.
Activities
Initial Formation
The young men who express their desire to be members of the congregation are given the initial training in this centre. The course of study aims at intellectual formation of these candidates. Along with introduction to subjects such as Christian Doctrine, Scripture, Salesian Pedagogy, languages etc, co-curricular activities in sports, music, etc are also given due importance. The candidates are also assisted through Leadership and Personality Development Programmes, group dynamics, debates and seminars on relevant themes. The candidates are also given training in spirituality and prayer life leading to personal growth.
Social Reach out
The institution also reaches out to the local people through youth programmes in 5 neighbouring villages especially on Sundays. There is also a evening study and classes for poor children of the immediate neighbourhood. Programmes relevant culturally and socially are organized in these villages in appropriate ways.
Young at Risk
A study has been done in the Mysore Town with regard to the Young At Risk and a programme will be initiated for this group. The study has been done with the assistance of the Child Labour Mission, Davangere.
