SIRA

History

The St. Joseph’s church, Sira consists of three centres: Sira Town and the villages of Amalagondi and Jogayanapalya. Most of the early Christians of the parish migrated from Mysore especially during the reign of Tipu Sultan. The first church in Amalagondi was built in 1913 and Jogayanapalya in 1962. The first church in Sira was built in 1972. Later, Sira and Jogayanapalya were made the substations of the parish of Hiriyur and Amalagondi was made a substation of Tumkur parish. In 1993

Sira was erected as a parish and Amalgondi and Jogayanapalya were made the substations of Sira. On June 15th, 2002, this parish was entrusted to the Salesians.
