BREADS is the development office of the Salesian Province of Bangalore. BREADS assists the projects in the states of Karnataka and Kerala for a better, systematic and scientific approach to development. We promote integral development through proper systems of promotion, monitoring and evaluation of the Socio-economic, cultural, technical and Development Projects in the region.
           

Mission: BREADS is a voluntary organization aiming at the transformation of the poor and the needy, as resources and agents of change through educative presence and accompaniment.
 

Vision: We envisage a community of justice peace and joy.
 


Don Bosco - Pavur

History

The centre in Pavur was begun in 1912 by an Italian missionary, for the Tribals (Koragas). An area of  308 acres of land obtained from the then Madras Government to settle this nomadic people. The Salesians took up the centre in 1997. Ever since all our activities have focused on their total well being and empowerment.

Activities

1. Community Development Programmes

Clean running water has been provided to the villagers by means of bore wells and construction of tanks and pipes. 45 houses are provided with water supply near to their home benefiting 112 people. 104 low cost buildings have been constructed to shelter 502 homeless tribal people. The whole village has been electrified and 64 houses are provided with solar energy. Health and sanitation provisions are made through camps. Families are helped to cultivate barren land and provided with irrigation facilities. 300 acres of land of the people have been fenced and protected from encroachment. Self-employment schemes and employment opportunities are promoted. Programmes are developed for the integral empowerment of the Scheduled Tribe.

2. Pastoral activities

The Holy Cross church has about 122 families as members. The activities of the church cater to the spiritual needs of the people.


3. Education

The education of children has been given priority, and a hostel each for boys and girls has been built to ensure a better all-round training. All children of school going age are followed up to ensure their enrollment as well as continuity in school. The centre ensures free and compulsory primary and secondary education of every child of the tribe by means of re-establishing the school, providing hostel facilities and promoting university education.

4. KG & LP School

There is an aided school catering to children in the kindergarten and lower primary classes. The school has 237 students. Eight class rooms of the school have been newly built.

5. Youth Centre

The youth are provided with counseling and guidance. Camps are organized in the weekends and summer to foster all round development and personality of the tribal youth. A spacious play ground was built and 235 people are benefiting from the recreation facilities available here.
