Don Bosco - Bidar Bidar, one of the 27 Districts of Karnataka, resembles the crown of the state occupying its northeastern tip.The district has five Taluks with their respective head quarters located at Aurad, Basavakalyan, Bhalki, Bidar and Humnabad. Due to its geographical location it has a unique Kannada language spoken in its own fashion, with lots of vocabulary borrowed from other languages. As per the 2001 Census the total population of the District is 15.01 lakhs which constitutes 2.84% of State population. In the district, 39.60% families are living below poverty line. The District's per capita income is low when compared to that of State, due to low productivity in agriculture and high unemployment and under employment. People migrate to bigger cities like As per Human Development Report 1997, the district stands in the 18th out of 20th position in the state with regard to literacy. The random study of primary education and higher primary education points to high rate of drop outs. The project has already started their village presence by reach out in the rural villages and mobilizing them. At present the project conducts 5 tuition and study centres in the villages around the town of Young at Risk From a rented premises in the town the project is already reaching out to the children and youth on the streets and at risk.
