The Kristu Jyoti College was established in 1968. The College gives course in Philosophy and Theology. The Bachelors and Masters Degrees in Theology are affiliated to the Pontifical Salesian University in Rome. The College has seen social involvements in the villages around and in the streets ofBangalore. The Social Service Guild - a registered organization is mostly a student initiative. They reach out to several villages in the neighbourhood. The social service guild has involved actively in the struggles of the people and liberated many from bonded labour.

Activities

Kristu Jyoti College: The college offers two year Bachelors course in Philosophy and a bachelors and masters degree in Theology. The students also have exposure to youth ministry, pastoral activities and social work opportunities. Along with the religious and theological formation, care is taken about the total development of the person through various activities. The courses offered are:

• Diploma course in youth  ministry and faith education
• Diploma course in liturgical animation
• Diploma course in philosophy Social Service Guild (SSG)

 Social Service Guild

The social service guild had its origin in the effort to respond to the situation of the people in the villages around the college. The bonded labour issue was brought to light with the effort of the students in late 19 70s. Later a separate body was registered for social work activities. The SSG has helped to free many bonded villages and also organize them as cooperatives for their own development and progress.

The present activities include:

• Housing project for the homeless
• Self-employment programmes
• Day-care Crèches to look  after  children of the poor working parents
• Awareness  programmes for   women and youth 
• Organising medical camps and health   and hygiene programmes
• Promotion of Education through Sponsorships and Scholarships
• Evening study  facility for over 1000 children.
• Prevention of child  labour 
• Self help Groups for women (500 members),  men (50 members) and youth   (200  members).
